COVID-19 is a contagious disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. In January 2020, the disease spread worldwide, resulting in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The symptoms of COVID‑19 can vary but often include fever,[7] fatigue, cough, breathing difficulties, loss of smell, and loss of taste.[8][9][10] Symptoms may begin one to fourteen days after exposure to the virus. At least a third of people who are infected do not develop noticeable symptoms.[11][12] Of those who develop symptoms noticeable enough to be classified as patients, most (81%) develop mild to moderate symptoms (up to mild pneumonia), while 14% develop severe symptoms (dyspnea, hypoxia, or more than 50% lung involvement on imaging), and 5% develop critical symptoms (respiratory failure, shock, or multiorgan dysfunction).[13] Older people have a higher risk of developing severe symptoms. Some complications result in death. Some people continue to experience a range of effects (long COVID) for months or years after infection, and damage to organs has been observed.[14] Multi-year studies on the long-term effects are ongoing.[15]

COVID‑19 transmission occurs when infectious particles are breathed in or come into contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth. The risk is highest when people are in close proximity, but small airborne particles containing the virus can remain suspended in the air and travel over longer distances, particularly indoors. Transmission can also occur when people touch their eyes, nose, or mouth after touching surfaces or objects that have been contaminated by the virus. People remain contagious for up to 20 days and can spread the virus even if they do not develop symptoms.[16]

Testing methods for COVID-19 to detect the virus’s nucleic acid include real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT‑PCR),[17][18] transcription-mediated amplification,[17][18][19] and reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT‑LAMP)[17][18] from a nasopharyngeal swab.[20]

Several COVID-19 vaccines have been approved and distributed in various countries, many of which have initiated mass vaccination campaigns. Other preventive measures include physical or social distancing, quarantining, ventilation of indoor spaces, use of face masks or coverings in public, covering coughs and sneezes, hand washing, and keeping unwashed hands away from the face. While drugs have been developed to inhibit the virus, the primary treatment is still symptomatic, managing the disease through supportive care, isolation, and experimental measures.

“Everyday we strive to exceed our own expectations” says Subir Das (Managing Director) who along with his son Ritwick, are ensuring that the company remains a market leader in quality and innovation, as it has been for the last three decades since its inception in 1988 by PC Das.

Flow Tech Air Private Limited manufactures cooling towers for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) and various industrial applications. Cooling Towers are essential units of the water cooled cooling industry and are used in large commercial buildings like malls, hotels, airports and factories. The cooling towers manufactured by Flow Tech Air are certified by Cooling Technology Institute, (USA) which certifies only those cooling towers which perform above 95% efficiency.

“Currently only a handful of companies across the world have passed this stringent performance testing certification which puts us amongst the best out there” says Ritwick Das, Vice President Sales & Marketing.

Back in the 1970s, while heading the East Indian market for Gamon India Limited in Kolkata, PC Das envisioned a company committed to manufacturing high quality and high performance cooling towers, which at the time was a scarcity in India.

Taking forward the visions of his father PC Das, Subir relocated to New Delhi from Kolkata in the early 1990s and was instrumental in expanding the company from a regional player to a national one with over 28000 installations all over the country as of today. Subir is also the President for the Delhi Chapter of the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, for the year 2018-2019.

Now 30 years later, as the torch is yet again passed on from Subir to his son Ritwick, the company looks forward to a world of possibilities and opportunities. Having already penetrated the currently American / Euoropean dominated Middle Eastern, African and Sri Lankan HVAC markets, Ritwick has positioned Flow Tech Air as a future global contender in the field of cooling towers. According to Ritwick, his roadmap for the future involves “negating competition while building on our own strengths and creating a sustainable space within the existing market by ensuring quality, performace and faster delivery timelines”.

The company’s goal for the coming years involves increasing their market share by 20% and raising the standards of Indian cooling tower manufacturing by adopting world class manufacturing methods. The company also aims to introduce several technological advancements as a part of their GREEN T initiative that will increase the life of the product by 10 years and will also help in conserving 97% more water used in it’s products.

Flow Tech Air Private Limited has always been one of India’s most technically-sound and adaptive cooling tower manufacturing companies. So when the need arose for cooling towers with low sound levels, we stepped up to the task and provided the best solution.

In 2014, DLF Home Developers Ltd., one of India’s largest Commercial and Residential real-estate developers contacted Flow Tech Air for cooling tower sound level issues at one of their residential projects namely DLF Magnolias, Gurgaon PH-5, Haryana, India. The issue was that the existing cooling towers for a 6000 TR plant were creating a sound level of 80-90 db and were increasing further at night time (due to low ambient sound) as the cooling towers were on the ground floor.

After a series of complaints from residents and relative stakeholders (neighbours) DLF brought in a joint meeting of all cooling tower companies from India and also hired an international engineering consultant to look for ways to provide low sound levels without compromising on thermal performance with the existing towers. While everyone could provide a low-sound solution, no one could guarantee a sustained thermal performance. This where we stepping in and provided the solution that no one else could and came up with a new series of low sound cooling towers, namely the CF Series Low Sound Cooling Towers.

At DLF, the challenge was not however to just provide a low sound solution but rather convert the existing induced draft cooling towers to forced draft low sound cooling towers with low sound centrifugal fans within the available space. This involved a lengthy process of changing the panel design, the entire distribution system, the airflow principle, external RCC structures etc. but with our superior technical know-how and dedication to effective project management we were able to complete the project within a specified time and provide the solution that DLF was looking for exceeding their expectations.

We have maintained the required DB levels of 50-55 Dba at 20 meters from the date of completion of project since 2014 without a single drop in thermal efficiency. The sound level tests and CT thermal performance tests were carried out by individual 3rd party testing agencies who verified the same.

If you also have the requirement for Low Sound Cooling Tower solutions, please let us know so that we can provide you with the

Mr. Subir Das (Managing Director, Flow Tech Air Private Limited) chaired a keynote on the technicality and operations of cooling towers at GMR Head Office at New Udaan Bhawan, New Delhi. The keynote was organised by GMR in partnership with Flow Tech Air in order to equip the technical and maintenance engineers at GMR with the required knowledge that they will need in order to handle the cooling towers at their project sites.

Key points that were discussed were:

– History and type of cooling towers
– Functioning system of different cooling towers
– Parameters and design criteria for cooling towers
– Essential key components of cooling towers
– In depth look at operation and maintenance of cooling towers

The keynote was attended by a number of senior, middle and junior engineers at GMR New Delhi. The keynote saw a lot of questions being put across to Mr. Subir Das by anxious young minds, questions which were well addressed, informative and satisfactory. All in all the keynote was well delivered and received. We thank everyone at GMR New Delhi for making the event a successful one.
